How to use the compound interest calculator
Without additions the result is P × (1 + r/n)n×t, where n is how many times a year interest is added (for continuous compounding, P × er×t). Monthly additions are made at the end of each month and earn the same effective rate from then on. Simple interest pays P × r × t on the starting amount only.
- Enter the starting amount and the yearly rate.
- Choose how long, and how often interest is added.
- Optionally add a monthly amount.
- Drag any slider and compare the solid line (compound) with the dashed line (simple).
