How to use the exam photo & signature resizer

Exam portals check three things: the picture size, the file size in KB and the format (almost always JPG). Forms state the picture size in different ways: in pixels (such as 200 × 230 px), in cm (such as 3.5 × 4.5 cm) or in inches (such as 2 × 2 in). Enter it exactly as your form says. For cm, mm and inches the tool converts to pixels at the print resolution you choose (300 DPI unless your form says otherwise) and records that resolution in the file. For the file size, enter the range from your form and use the slider to choose where in that range to aim.

  1. Drop your photo or a scan of your signature on the box.
  2. Choose an exam preset, or tap a common size, or type the width, height and unit from your form.
  3. Enter the file-size range from your form, and slide Aim for towards smaller or sharper.
  4. Drag the crop box so your face, or the whole signature, sits inside it.
  5. Tap Resize and compress and download the JPG.

Questions

My form says 2 × 2 inches. How many pixels is that?
It depends on the print resolution. At 300 DPI, 2 × 2 inches is 600 × 600 pixels; at 200 DPI it is 400 × 400. Choose inches as the unit and the resolution your form asks for, and the tool works out the pixels. If the form gives no resolution, 300 DPI is the usual choice for photos.
Can I set any file size I like?
Yes, any range from 1 KB up to 5,000 KB (about 5 MB). Most forms ask in KB, for example 20–50 KB or up to 200 KB. If the picture size is large and the limit very small, the tool tells you it can’t fit without becoming unreadable, so you can lower the picture size or raise the limit.
Are these the official sizes for my exam?
They are the sizes reported for recent notifications, and the note under each preset says what it covers. Boards change them, so always check the latest official notification for your exam and edit the width, height and KB fields if they differ.
Why can’t I upload a photo for SSC?
SSC now captures your photo live through your camera during the online application, so only the signature is uploaded. This tool prepares the signature.
The portal says my file is too small. Why?
Some forms set a minimum size, such as 20 KB. The tool raises quality and, if the image is still too small, pads the file with harmless metadata so it meets the minimum without changing how it looks.
How should I scan my signature?
Sign in black ink on plain white paper, photograph it in daylight, and tick the black-and-white option. Crop tightly around the signature.
What photo background should I use?
Most exams want a light or white background, your face covering about 70 percent of the photo, and a recent photo without a cap or dark glasses.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Your photo is processed by your own browser and never sent to a server. You can even switch on airplane mode after the page loads.
