Understanding your result
Percentage change is (new − old) ÷ old × 100, so it is always measured from the starting value. That’s why a rise and a fall of the same percentage don’t cancel out. For marks, percentage is marks obtained ÷ total marks × 100.
Questions
How do I calculate marks percentage?
Divide marks obtained by total marks and multiply by 100. For 432 out of 500, that is 432 ÷ 500 × 100 = 86.4 percent.
Is a 50% rise followed by a 50% fall back to the start?
No. 100 up 50 percent is 150; down 50 percent from there is 75. Percentage changes apply to the current value, not the original.
How do I convert CGPA to percentage?
It depends on your board or university. CBSE has used CGPA × 9.5; many universities publish their own formula on the mark sheet.
